Release notes and version history for Restored Sword: KJV Study Bible
v69
May 31, 2026
🎨 Improved
- Updated the donation link to a new PayPal giving page, so support reaches the ministry directly. The "Support This Ministry" buttons and the privacy policy now point to the new page.
v68
May 30, 2026
🎨 Improved
- Red-letter precision now covers all six books: Mark, Luke, John, Acts, and Revelation join Matthew in showing only the actual spoken words of the Messiah in red, following the Cambridge KJV standard. Narration frames are no longer colored, parable speech He quotes is kept red, dialogue partners' replies are now black, and verses where He speaks more than once (like John 21:15-17) correctly highlight each of His utterances separately.
- Twelve verses that were entirely narration (such as a disciple's question with no words from the Messiah) are no longer shown in red.
v67
May 29, 2026
🐛 Fixed
- Fixed a coloring bug from the previous update: in Matthew, the partially-red verses (where only part of a verse is the Messiah's spoken words) were showing that portion in the normal text color instead of red. The red now displays correctly for both fully-red and partially-red verses.
v66
May 29, 2026
🎨 Improved
- Red-letter words are now precise in the Gospel of Matthew: only the actual spoken words of the Messiah are shown in red, following the Cambridge KJV standard. Narration frames like “And Yahushua said unto him,” are no longer colored red, and in verses where He speaks in the middle of a dialogue, only His words are highlighted. (Matthew first — Mark, Luke, John, Acts, and Revelation to follow.)
v65
May 29, 2026
🐛 Fixed
- Matthew 12:31 said "Holy Ghost" instead of "Set-Apart Spirit" — the only verse in the entire Bible where this restoration had been missed. Now corrected, so the phrase reads consistently with the very next verse (12:32) and with all 88 other occurrences.
v64
May 23, 2026
🎨 Improved
- Removed the redundant "What's New" card from Settings. Recent changes are still shown after every update via the gold-bordered popup on the home screen, and the full version history is available at the Changelog link in Settings → Learn & Help.
- Public changelog page (restoredsword.com/changelog.html) now shows the complete version history — all 38 releases from the beginning to today. Previously it was frozen at v12.
v63
May 23, 2026
🐛 Fixed
- Word lookup now respects the KJV's case-sensitive distinction for "Lord". In Old Testament passages, tapping "Lord" (capital L only, e.g. Genesis 18:3) now correctly shows H136 (Adonai) instead of H3068 (YHWH). The KJV translators used capitalization to encode three different Hebrew words — LORD = YHWH, Lord = Adonai, lord = a human master — and the lookup honors all three. About 294 verses across the Bible were affected by this.
v62
May 23, 2026
✨ New
- Backup reminders: when you have accumulated study notes, bookmarks, topics, and collections worth saving, the home screen shows a friendly reminder to download a backup file. Restored Sword stores everything on your device — a backup is your safety net if your browser data is ever cleared.
- "Coming from another device?" banner on a fresh install with a one-tap Restore button, so you can import a backup file from a previous device without hunting through Settings.
- "Last backed up" status line in Settings under Export / Import Data. Turns amber when 30+ days have passed and you have unsaved study work.
- Backup files now include study topics and collections, and importing a backup restores them. Earlier versions backed up only notes, bookmarks, highlights, and reading plan progress.
- New FAQ entries explaining what happens to your data if you clear your browser, and how to move your notes to a new device.
v61
May 16, 2026
✨ New
- New "Learn & Help" section in Settings with quick links to the Learn articles, the Frequently Asked Questions page, About, the changelog, and the privacy policy — so you can reach all the web resources without leaving the app
v60
May 16, 2026
🎨 Improved
- Word lookup now resolves 214 more names and words that previously showed no Strong's entry. Many proper names (Abigail, Hilkiah, Bethel, Meshach, Abednego and others) and plural forms (Amorites, Hittites, Israelites) were spelled differently in the word map than in the KJV text, so tapping them returned nothing. A verified spelling-variant table now bridges the gap.
🐛 Fixed
- Fixed: tapping the name "Abigail" (and many similar names) showed no Strong's Concordance entry. The lookup now finds H26 and the others correctly.
v59
May 16, 2026
✨ New
- Three new Learn articles: "Is It Wrong to Say Jesus?", "How to Pronounce YHWH", and "Yahweh vs Yahushua — What's the Difference?" — answering the questions readers most commonly ask about the sacred names
- New Frequently Asked Questions page covering what a sacred name Bible is, whether the app is free, offline use, privacy, and installation
🎨 Improved
- Search engine optimization: the FAQ page includes structured FAQ data and each new article includes Article structured data, helping search engines understand and surface the content
- The Learn section and the homepage now link to all the new pages so they are easy to discover
v58
May 10, 2026
🎨 Improved
- SEO indexing fixes: every page now has proper Open Graph tags, Twitter Card tags, and explicit robots meta. The homepage now includes a crawlable noscript block with internal links to all Learn articles so Googlebot can find them without JavaScript.
- Fixed welcome.html canonical: it was pointing to the homepage, telling Google not to index welcome.html separately. Now points to itself, so Google indexes it as its own landing page.
- Added internal-link footers to changelog.html and privacy.html so Google can crawl back to the rest of the site from those pages.
v57
May 5, 2026
✨ New
- New 14-day reading plan: “The Two Covenants Understood” — a verse-by-verse walk through the biblical case that there is ONE everlasting covenant. What is called the “old” is its broken state (flesh-based attempts to accomplish YHWH’s promises); the “new” is the same covenant renewed and written on the heart
- Six new covenant-themed parallel passages: The Everlasting Covenant Established (Gen 15+17+Gal 3), Hagar and Sarah: Two Covenant Patterns (Gen 16+21+Gal 4), Sinai Republished and Broken (Exo 20+24+32), The Gospel Was Preached to Israel (Exo 20+Heb 4), The Law Written on the Heart (Deut 30 → Heb 10 thread), Walk in the Old Paths (Jer 6 thread)
🎨 Improved
- Existing covenant parallels updated to reflect the everlasting-covenant view: “The New Covenant Promised” → “The Covenant Renewed”, “A New Covenant” → “The Renewed Covenant Promised”, with notes explaining that “new” in Heb 8 means refreshed/renewed, not replacement
v56
May 5, 2026
✨ New
- Parallel Passages massively expanded: 65 new entries including 30 Messianic prophecy/fulfillment pairs, 25 of the most important OT verses quoted in the NT, and 10 theme threads (Living Water, Bread of Life, Light of the World, the Lamb of YHWH, the Promised Seed, the Day of YHWH, the Shepherd of Israel, Circumcision of the Heart, My Servant, I Will Be Their Elohim)
- Verse-level parallels: open the parallel panel from a verse and it auto-scrolls each column to the matching verse, with the target verse highlighted
- Type categorization: parallels are now organized into Synoptic Parallels, Parallel History, Theological Connections, Prophecy & Fulfillment, OT Quoted in NT, and Theme Threads — each with its own color-coded badge
🎨 Improved
- When a chapter has parallels of multiple types, the picker groups them with section headers (e.g. opening Hebrews 8 shows 3 categories with the New Covenant theme connecting them)
v55
May 5, 2026
✨ New
- Compare with KJV: tap the new ⚖️ button on any selected verse to see the Restored text and the original KJV side by side, with the differences highlighted
- Study Topics: a new sub-tab in Saved for free-form study notes on themes (e.g. "The Names of YHWH", "Yahushua's Father-references"). Auto-saves as you type and persists across sessions.
v54
May 5, 2026
✨ New
- New reading plan: "The Spirit of YHWH" — a 14-day study walking through the biblical case that the Set-Apart Spirit is the Father's spiritual presence and power, given through the glorified Son. Pairs with the new Learn article.
v53
May 4, 2026
✨ New
- Manual "Check for Updates" button in Settings → Offline Access for users who want to force-check anytime
🎨 Improved
- Safe-update flow: when a new version installs, the service worker now copies all of your existing cached files into the new cache before deleting anything. If you go offline mid-update, your app keeps working with the version you already have.
- Update popup now shows clear "Updating..." feedback while the new version installs
- Coming back online now shows a quick toast confirming the app is checking for updates
- Safety reload: if the update fails to take effect within 10 seconds of tapping "Update Now", the page reloads anyway
🐛 Fixed
- Fixed an edge case where activating a new service worker could leave you with no cached Bible data if the network dropped during activation
v52
May 4, 2026
🎨 Improved
- Aggressive update detection: the app now checks for updates immediately on every load, every 15 minutes while open, when you return to the tab, and the moment your device reconnects to the internet
- Service worker registration uses updateViaCache:none so the browser always checks the server for the newest sw.js (no 24-hour caching delay)
- Service worker now does network-first for HTML page navigations, ensuring online users always get the latest content while offline users still get the cached version
- Old caches are now properly purged when a new version activates
v51
May 4, 2026
✨ New
- Full offline support: the app now works completely without internet. Visit Settings → Offline Access to see what is cached.
- New "Download All for Offline" button caches every Bible file, Strong's Concordance, cross-references, learning articles, and fonts at once (about 8 MB)
- All Learn articles, the welcome page, and the about page are now pre-cached so they work offline
🎨 Improved
- Self-hosted the Cinzel and EB Garamond fonts (76 KB total) so the app renders correctly without internet — no more falling back to system fonts when offline
- Service worker now uses a 3-tier caching strategy: critical files for first paint, secondary pages in background, study tools on demand
- Offline page navigation now shows a friendly fallback if a page is not cached
v50
May 4, 2026
✨ New
- New Learn article: "What Is the Set-Apart Spirit?" — the biblical case that the Spirit is the Father's spiritual presence and power, not a third being
🎨 Improved
- Existing Learn articles updated to align with the biblical understanding: the Father is the only true Elohim, Yahushua is His Son sent by the Father (John 17:3, 1 Cor 8:6), and the Set-Apart Spirit is the Father's spiritual presence flowing through the glorified Son
- Removed Trinitarian language ("three persons," "unity-in-distinction") from articles where it had crept in
- Added cross-links so all articles connect to the Set-Apart Spirit explanation
v49
May 4, 2026
✨ New
- New Learn section at /learn/ with six articles on sacred names, Bible study, and translation comparisons — designed to help newcomers understand the restored names
- Saved tab now has sub-tab navigation: Collections, Quick Saves, and Notes are separate sections instead of stacked together
🎨 Improved
- Improved color contrast throughout the app for better readability — secondary text now meets WCAG AA standards
- Added /learn/ articles to sitemap for search engine discovery
v48
May 4, 2026
🐛 Fixed
- Critical iPhone Safari fix: the site now loads correctly on iPhone Safari browsers. A reference to the Notification API at script load time threw a ReferenceError on iOS Safari (which does not expose the Notification global outside of installed PWAs), crashing the script before the splash could be dismissed. Wrapped the reference in a typeof check.
v47
May 3, 2026
🎨 Improved
- Initial page load is now ~3.6MB lighter — Strong's Concordance and cross-references are loaded only when you actually use them
- QR code library is loaded only when you open the Share App dialog
- Strong's word lookups are cached so common words (YHWH, Elohim, etc.) are instant on repeat taps
- Scroll handling is now throttled with requestAnimationFrame for smoother scrolling on slower devices
- Google Fonts now use font-display:swap for faster initial text render
v46
May 2, 2026
🎨 Improved
- Quick word lookup now requires a double-tap instead of a single tap. This prevents the Strong's popover from appearing accidentally while scrolling. Long-press still opens the full Strong's entry as before.
🐛 Fixed
- Word popover no longer appears when you tap-and-scroll
v45
May 2, 2026
🎨 Improved
- Added accessibility labels to verse highlight color buttons for screen reader users
🐛 Fixed
- Storage layer (notes, bookmarks, highlights) now gracefully handles iOS Safari private browsing mode where IndexedDB is restricted
- Migration from old storage to new storage no longer crashes the app if IndexedDB is unavailable
- storeGet and storeSet now properly catch errors so the app never crashes from a storage failure
v44
May 2, 2026
🎨 Improved
- Added a 10-second emergency loading timeout. If the app fails to load (stuck on splash screen), it now automatically clears the cache and offers a reload button. This fixes the iPhone Safari stuck-loading issue caused by stale cached data from earlier broken versions.
🐛 Fixed
- Loading screen no longer stays stuck forever on iPhone Safari
v43
April 25, 2026
🐛 Fixed
- QR code now actually scans and opens the website. The previous QR generator library was producing a malformed bit pattern that no scanner could decode. Replaced with the industry-standard qrcode-generator library.
v42
April 25, 2026
🎨 Improved
- QR code in Share App now loads with multiple fallbacks: local generator first, external API second, helpful message if both fail
- QR code is now properly sized (210x210) for cleaner scanning
- Hardcoded the share URL to https://restoredsword.com/ so the QR always points to the canonical site
🐛 Fixed
- Three of four search result paths were navigating to the chapter top instead of the exact verse
- Removed duplicate saveCollections function definition
v41
April 25, 2026
🎨 Improved
- Share App now generates a clean QR code that always points to restoredsword.com
- Falls back to an external QR service if the local generator fails, so the QR is always available when online
🐛 Fixed
- QR code in the Share App dialog was sometimes blank or broken
v40
April 25, 2026
🐛 Fixed
- Saved tab now opens correctly after bookmarking a verse or adding a note. The render function had a reference to an undefined variable that crashed the rendering pipeline whenever a verse with cross-references was being rendered in the Saved tab.
v39
April 25, 2026
🎨 Improved
- Saving a verse now shows a brief confirmation message instead of opening a modal — the Saved tab is immediately accessible
🐛 Fixed
- Saved tab no longer becomes inaccessible after bookmarking a verse or adding a note
- Stuck modals are now automatically dismissed when switching tabs
v38
April 25, 2026
🐛 Fixed
- Saved tab now works correctly when you have bookmarks or notes — tapping the tab always opens it
- Verse cards in the Saved tab no longer attach heavy word-press handlers, removing the event conflict that blocked the tab bar
v37
April 25, 2026
✨ New
- Collections: create named collections to organize verses by topic — like playlists. Give each collection a name, description, and icon (Prayer, Faith, Prophecy, etc.).
- Add any verse to a collection by tapping the 📚 button in the verse action bar, or the folder icon on saved verses.
- When you save a verse and have collections, you are immediately offered to add it to one.
- Collections show all their verses in order, each tappable to navigate directly to that verse.
- Quick Saves section shows any saved verses not yet added to a collection.
🎨 Improved
- Saved tab is now organized: Collections at top, Quick Saves below, Study Notes at the bottom
v36
April 25, 2026
🐛 Fixed
- Bookmark button now works correctly — saved verses appear in the Saved tab without errors
- Saved tab no longer renders bookmarks twice, which was causing the display to be blank or buggy
- Folder badge and Move to Folder button now show correctly on each saved verse card
v35
April 25, 2026
🎨 Improved
- Search mode buttons now highlight immediately when selected — Exact Phrase, All Words, and Any Word are clearly marked as active
- Testament filter buttons (All Books, Old Testament, New Testament) also highlight correctly
🐛 Fixed
- Search mode buttons were not showing as selected even after being tapped
v34
April 25, 2026
✨ New
- Three search modes in the Search tab: Exact Phrase finds the words in order, All Words finds verses containing every word you type (great for “two wombs” style searches), Any Word finds verses with at least one of your words
- Search results now highlight the matched word or phrase inside the verse text
- Each result shows the verses before and after for context
🎨 Improved
- Single-word searches now work (previously required 2+ characters)
- Clicking a search result navigates to the exact verse, highlighted and scrolled into view
v33
April 25, 2026
✨ New
- Share chapter image: tap the Share button on any chapter to generate a branded image with a key verse for social media
- Parallel passages: chapters with Gospel parallels or Old Testament parallels show a Parallel button for side-by-side comparison across books
- Bookmark folders: organize saved verses into named folders like Sermon Prep or Personal Study
- Chapter progress bar: a thin gold bar shows how far through the chapter you have scrolled
- Back-to-top button: appears after scrolling down and returns you to the top of the chapter
🎨 Improved
- Tapping any restored name (YHWH, Elohim, Yahushua, Mashiach, the Master) now opens the correct Strong’s entry. Elohim in the New Testament shows the Greek entry (G2316, theos)
- Archaic KJV verb forms like wouldest, hast, shalt, and mayest now resolve correctly in Strong’s
- Subtle divider lines every 5 verses make long chapters easier to read
- Landing page at restoredsword.com/welcome.html and About page at restoredsword.com/about.html
🐛 Fixed
- Loading screen no longer gets stuck
- Update popup now appears correctly after new versions are deployed
v17

- Export Study Notes already available in Settings → Your Data (PDF, Markdown, Email)

- Only direct OT quotations in the NT now carry YHWH — all other uses restored to "the Master"

✨ New
- Textual note on John 1:1 explaining the Greek article distinction (ho theos vs. theos)
